bathroom spring cleaning

Spring is here, and that means one thing - spring cleaning! The bathroom especially seems to be an area of procrastination and dread. Ultimately, though, the bathroom needs to be thoroughly cleaned, getting into all those nooks and crannies we generally avoid. Here are some unique bathroom spring cleaning and storage tips that should help you power through the process, and leave with you with a spick and span bathroom!

To make things even simpler, we’ve added a little bathroom cleaning checklist at the end to help you organize your cleaning ritual.

Tip #1: For Cleaning The Tub

Use mold-killing products like bleach, vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. There’s no point in doing a thorough cleaning only to have a mold breakout again weeks later. Using mold killing cleaners should take care of this. You can use an old toothbrush to really get into the cracks around your tub that may attract mold. Use hot water to rinse it off and then dry it with a towel.

If you don’t like chemical cleaners, we recommend making your own less toxic mold cleaner. This involves mixing baking soda, liquid soap, and antifungal essential oils to form a thin paste that can be used to prevent mold and mildew.

Tip #2: Shower Curtain Length

Having a short shower curtain not only looks tidy, but it keeps the curtain ends from dragging on the floor and collecting dust or getting stained. Cut the outside part of your shower curtain up to three inches longer than the top of your tub, hemming the edge up to give it a neat finish. Keep the plastic layer full length, and let it hang on the inside of your tub so that it prevents water from splashing out.

Tip #3: Categorize When Reorganizing

When you are putting everything back into cabinets and storage, re-organize your toiletries. This will create a better system for keeping things in their correct place, leading to less of a mess and much easier subsequent cleaning sessions. Organize your things into categories like face care, dental care, hair care, lotions and nighttime routine, nail supplies, perfumes, makeup, extra supplies, etc. Make sure you have a designated area for each of these categories - it doesn't have to be a whole separate cabinet, but maybe a special shelf area for your hair products, a little container for your dental care, and so on.

Tip #4: Bathroom Storage

There are many great ways to store towels. Mounting baskets on the wall to act as storage containers is an easy and aesthetically pleasing hack if you don’t have a lot of cabinet space.

In terms of storing toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and combs, consider sticking adhesive-backed cups to the insides on your cabinets. When horizontal, these items take up a considerably larger amount of space. Storing them vertically is effective and neat.

Keep these tips in mind when you go about your bathroom spring cleaning process. Here’s a checklist that outlines the various steps in cleaning your bathroom, with little reminders on what not to forget. Perfect if you want to make sure your kids don't forget a spot while cleaning the bathroom.
